NELLIE TIER Nourishing antiseptic lotion fights bacteria as it moisturises hands
Following the huge interest in our antibacterial Manuka Honey and Tea Tree Hand Wash we developed a natural antiseptic hand lotion that combines the extraordinary frontline abilities of natural chemicals in thyme honey with rich nutrients that will moisturise and nourish hands after regular hand washing.
Our thyme honey is collected from the semi arid Central Otago region of New Zealand. The hot dry summers there mimic the southern Mediterranean where the herb is indigenous. Its name, derived from the Greek ‘thumus’ – courage – is a good description of the herb’s abilities. Antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antiseptic – thyme’s benefits are well recognised for the respiratory system, skin and general health and have been used in traditional medicine since BC.
There seem to be two theories of how the now wild herb was brought to Otago, both from the time of the gold rush: one is that French goldminer Jean Desire Feraud planted it on his farm in the 1860’s and the second that it was brought to New Zealand by Chinese miners working at that time. Whatever its origins the herb ‘jumped the fence’. Now the hills bloom purple in summer and as the herb blossoms and dries essential oils intensify and New Zealand bees get to work and gather nectar. The fragrant and potent honey they produce is a vital ingredient in our new luxurious hand lotion.
